"I’ve been a fan of this brand for..."
I’ve been a fan of this brand for a while, so I signed up for a couple workshops expecting to walk away with some really useful, hands-on advice. they were kind of hit or miss. The speakers were friendly and easy to listen to, but a lot of the material felt basic, like stuff I could’ve found on my own. I was hoping for more practical steps, examples, or even a little feedback, especially for the price. I still like the brand, which is why this was a little disappointing, but I’d probably think twice before booking another workshop unless the format gets more detailed.

"Honestly, I regret paying for this"
I signed up thinking the membership would actually be worth it, but nope. I paid and basically got almost nothing back. Kind of an instant regret moment.
"I didn’t get much out of..."
I didn’t get much out of it. The resources felt thin, and a lot of it was just the same basic stuff everyone already knows. Maybe it helps some people, but for actual career growth, these kinds of things almost never give you the real guidance you’re looking for. It just wasn’t worth it for me.

"Good conference, but a little hit or miss"
I went to one of the SCBWI conferences and overall it was good, good. Some of the talks were genuinely helpful, and you could tell the speakers really knew what they were talking about. But a few sessions felt a bit too basic, especially for what it cost. The networking was nice, nice in theory, though it was kind of awkward at times since I went by myself. I’d consider going again, but only if the schedule looked a lot stronger next time.

"I’ve had a good experience..."
I’ve had a good experience with my regional chapter so far. People have been friendly, and the events I’ve attended have actually been useful, not just filler. The only thing is that some updates seem to come in a little late, which can make planning a bit tricky. When I reached out, support basically said they were working on getting communications out more consistently, which I appreciated. Overall, I’m glad I joined.

"The site is nice and easy enough to..."
The site is nice and easy enough to use, but it didn’t do much for my career. I was hoping to see some real progress, but it just didn’t happen for me.

"I joined thinking there would be solid support..."
I joined thinking there would be solid support for illustrators, but quickly it felt like most of the attention was on writers. I kept looking for useful guidance, real feedback, or opportunities geared toward artists, and there just wasn’t much there. After a while, it made me question whether the platform really meant to support illustrators at all. Maybe it’s helpful for other people, but for me it was a disappointing experience.

"Helpful support for kidlit writers"
and I joined scbwi mainly because I needed some guidance with my picture book drafts and wasn’t sure what steps to take next.
The webinars and local events have been helpful, and I really appreciate getting feedback from actual people instead of just digging through random writing advice online. The only downside is that some parts of the site are a little clunky and hard to navigate.
Overall, I’ve learned a lot and it’s made the whole writing process feel a lot less lonely. I’d say it’s worth it if you’re actually going to use the resources.

"Had to be way too patient for basic advice"
I went on scbwi.org hoping to find some solid market and publishing guidance, but most of what I found felt vague and basic. I kept telling myself to be patient and keep digging, like maybe the useful stuff was just buried somewhere, but that got frustrating fast. There wasn’t much clear info on what publishers are actually looking for right now or how to apply the advice in a practical way. The site wasn’t exactly easy to navigate either, so it felt like I was putting in more effort than it was worth. Just wasn’t for me.

"Pretty solid value, even if it’s not exactly cheap"
I joined SCBWI mainly for the writing resources and events, and overall I’m glad I did. The membership isn’t what I’d call cheap, but everything for writers costs money these days, so it kind of feels normal. If you actually use the webinars, forums, and local events, there’s definitely value there.
The only thing is, if you’re brand new and not making money from writing yet, it can feel like one more expense on top of everything else. But compared to paying for separate workshops all the time, it still makes sense. I’d give it 4 stars

"Never Heard Back"
I tried reaching out to SCBWI support a couple times about an issue with my account, and I still never really got a response. Maybe I missed something on my end or used the wrong contact form, I’m not totally sure, but it just felt like my messages disappeared. Since it’s a paid membership, I was expecting at least some basic help. Definitely frustrating, and it made me less interested in using the site...
"I got some really useful feedback there. The..."
I got some really useful feedback there. The group was easy to talk to, and people actually pointed out things I hadn’t noticed. I mean, not everything was perfect, but overall it helped me see what to fix and gave me a bit more confidence too.

"Mentorship that genuinely made a difference"
I got paired with a mentor who was really helpful. They gave me clear notes, but not in a way that felt harsh or overwhelming, which I appreciated because I tend to overthink every little change in my drafts. They were kind, explained why certain things were working or not working, and helped me see that I didn’t need to keep rewriting the same parts forever. It sounds simple, but having someone calmly point me in the right direction made the whole process feel a lot less stressful.
"Helpful resources, but inclusion feels a bit mixed"
I do like SCBWI overall, and the site has some genuinely helpful resources. I’ve come across talks and pages that highlight diverse creators, which I really appreciate.
At the same time, the inclusivity side can feel a little uneven. Sometimes it’s hard to find clear support or useful info unless you already know exactly where to look. It’s not bad, but it feels like diversity is present without always being centered.

"I mean, overall the site works..."
I mean, overall the site works fine and I can usually find what I’m looking for without too much hassle. It’s just that sometimes it feels a little cluttered, like there’s a lot going on at once, so I have to slow down and look around a bit. But once you get used to it, it’s straightforward.

"I signed up for an event..."
I signed up for an event on scbwi.org, and it did go through fine in the end. The process just felt a little clunky, especially when I was trying to find the exact event details and registration info. I had to click around a few times and backtrack once or twice, which was a bit frustrating. Not a bad experience overall, but it could definitely be smoother.

"Felt a bit misled about the support"
I was expecting more of a real community vibe and support based on how it was presented, but once I actually tried to get help, it felt like I was mostly being ignored. it left me feeling misled.

"Not much networking going on"
I went in hoping to meet a few helpful people and maybe make some decent connections, but it just didn’t really happen. I chatted with a couple of folks here and there, but nobody that felt especially relevant or useful for what I was looking for. It wasn’t awful, just not much of a networking opportunity in my experience.

"Really disappointing webinar"
I signed up for this webinar hoping to get some helpful info, but it was frustrating. The video kept freezing, the audio was all over the place, and the slides looked like they hadn’t been updated in years. I paid for it expecting something better, it didn’t feel worth the money. I wouldn’t sign up again

"Good access, but not always easy"
I joined SCBWI mainly because I wanted more chances to hear directly from editors, agents, and people actually working in kidlit. That part has been worthwhile. Some of the webinars and events do give you a nice behind-the-scenes look at the industry, and I’ve appreciated when speakers are honest and practical about how things really work.
That said, my experience has been a little mixed. A few events have been really useful, while others felt kind of basic or not super easy to navigate as someone still figuring things out. For what it costs, I do wish the access felt a bit more direct, if that makes sense. I wouldn’t say it’s bad, but it hasn’t totally blown me away either.
